SOME IMPORTANT NATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES HELD


(i) Served as a member of the ten-man committee set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria to produce the National Geoinformation policy for Nigeria. It is this policy that outlines the major operational modalities of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) on its National Geospatial Data Information Structure (NGDI) Program. The committee was inaugurated on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria by the former Minister of Science and Technology (Professor Turner Isoun) in July 2002 and worked till August 2003 when the report was handed over to him.

(ii) Served as a first term member of the 23-man National NGDI committee for Nigeria to work towards implementation of the National space research and Development Program (2005-2008).

(iii) Now serving on a second term in the 23-man National NGDI committee for Nigeria to work towards implementation of the National space research and Development Program (2008 to date).

(iv) Served as the Coordinator and Chief Executive of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Abuja. 19th March 2009 to 31st May 2010.

(a) August - September 1995, I was commissioned to undertake an enlightenment workshop on Techniques of Project Design, Management and sustainability by community based organisations in five Local Government areas of Katsina State. The Workshop was organised and funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Rome, Italy in conjunction with the Katsina State Government.

(b) In March 1993, I was commissioned by the Ford Foundation, in conjunction with the Nigerian Environmental Study Action/Team to undertake an appraisal of activities of Non-Governmental Organisations in Katsina State.

(c) In March 2001, I was appointed as a freelance contributor to the Daily Trust Newspaper, to be contributing weekly articles on issues on Society and the Environment.

(d) In November 2002, I was appointed to serve in the ten-man Federal Government Committee to Draft a National Policy on Geo-Information for Nigeria. This policy forms the framework upon which the major activities and programmes of the National space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) are conducted.

(i) Served as a Principal consultant to a project on Ecological Problems Survey and Documentation, conducted for the Jigawa State Government.
